Training Session on the Effective Use of PowerPoint

PowerPoint is omnipresent; it represents 95% of the presentation software market. PP is a given in the corporate world. Unfortunately, bad presentations are also everywhere.

The misuse of PP can kill a presentation: commonly identified as Death by PowerPoint. As the speaker reads the lines one at a time while they appear on the screen, often with little additional comment, the attention of the audience fades. It’s deadly in business. One presentation consultant estimates that, on average, a company of 250 people wastes almost a half-million dollars a year on bad PowerPoint habits. PP may distort a message by reducing a message to bullet points in outline form only.

In numerous articles PP has even been cited for potential blame in the Challenger disaster, the obfuscation of evidence concerning WMDs in Iraq to the United Nations, and for not having won the war in Afghanistan. In addition, there are claims that PP has even been used to intentionally suppress any type of insightful (aka, hard) questions from the audience. Behind all the jokes and exaggerated claims are serious concerns that PP interferes with meaningful discussion, thoughtful decision-making, critical thinking, and critical evaluation.

PP is a useful tool and can be a great aid to presenting a variety of information and even stimulating decision making and critical thinking provided that the presenter uses PP as a visual tool rather than as the exclusive medium of the presentation.

SCK Consulting can help you overcome the obstacles and monotony with a brief workshop on how PP can be used effectively in all types and purposes of presentations.
